I've enjoyed the cafe Lucy's on a Plate for years, now you can learn to bake like the experts. In the village of Stavely between Kendal and Windermere is a fantastic cookery school Lucy Cooks. They run day, weekend and demonstration courses for a huge variety of cuisines from Cumbrian to Chinese, BBQ to lucy's Restaurant Food. Something to please all tastes.

Take the A591 north from Ambleside towards Grasmere. This route skims the shores of Rydal Water and affords superb views accross the water to Loughrigg Fell. In Autumn the colours of the turning leaves are spectacular. At Whitemoss Common it is possible to park your car and take a short walk to reach the shores of Grasmere Lake.
