The Bowder Stone
A 10m high 2000 ton boulder which travelled from Scotland carried by the glaciers of the Ice Age. Located half way down Borrowdale this curioous sight set amongst superb forest is easily reached from a well sign posted car park. The path is well formed and suitable for children. The Bowder Stone is popular with climbers who reach the top via routes of varying difficulties. It is fascinating to watch. The more sensible amongst us can safely take the steps. A great Sunday walk after a heavy night on the town when you want some fresh air or one for parents with toddlers.
It possibly gets its name from Balder, son of the Norse God Odin.
