Cafe
Emmas at Yard 46
This characterful little cafe set in an ancient building still mostly in orignal condition is a perfect place to escape the busy atmosphere of Kendal. Set in a yard reached through a side door and an alley way it could easily be missed. Keep an eye out for the sign (pictured) on Branthwaite Brow near The Famous Chocolate House 1657.
Brief Encounter Cafe
True traditional coffee shop and restaurant popular with locals set in the old Langwathby Station.
Number 15 Cafe Bar
No. 15 is one of those unexpected gems which once discovered is likely to become an instant favourite. Worth coming to Penrith for especially. This wonderful place will appeal to those who pine for a little space to chill with relaxing contemporary music, freshly made food, newspapers to browse and very good bubbly attentive service. A refreshing mix of modern styling and subtle attention to detail are what this cafe is all about to me. Choose from comfy bean bags, leather sofas or regular seating, there are high chairs and toys for the kids, and a doggy bowl at the door.
Caldbeck Watermill Cafe
This unexpectedly good cafe is set within a fully restored lakeland stone watermill. Far from the madding crowds of Keswick this place is a real haven and a great half way point for a driving tour on the norhtern side of Skiddaw.
The Jumble Room
An intimate cosy cafe and restaurant tucked away behind the main street in Grasmere. Enjoy attentive service in this very special place where you are able to take the time to relax surrounded by contemporary artwork by a local artist. The cuisine is critically acclaimed in national press (essential to book). We think it is rather nice too!
Apple Pie Eating House
A long standing favourite amongst Ambleside fraternity, the Apple Pie Eating house is a purveyor of fine cakes, slices and of course Cumbrian Apple Pies. Located close to the Ambleside Bridge house which aptly was used to store apples in the past, this cafe is busy and rightly so. The food is good wholesome and fresh, the atmosphere is hectic. They have a variety of seating areas both indoors and outside in a more relaxed courtyard. The cafe is conveniently located at the north end of the village as you head for Grasmere.
