Eden ostrich World is a great place to take children with too much energy. Not only are there pleny of animals to see including Emus, Ostriches,Mere Cats, Sheep, Cattle there is a brilliant adventure play area which has a rope runway, huge rope swing and a sledge way (on rails). There are some ride on toys, some of which are big enough for adults which are a whole lot of fun. Inside there is a ball pit and soft play area plus a good cafe and toy shop. 

Hesketh Newmarket is a quaint little Eden village with real heart. This tiny place has a real community feel and a warmth of charater which will appeal to anyone wishing to enjoy some peace and quiet away from the usual trappings of the tourist centres.

The charming little tea rooms which has a toilet down the street, the ancient pub which is owned by the villagers and serves beer which is brewed in the back yard make this place a wonderful experience to visit. Prince Charles has a fondness with Hesketh Newmarket, I can see why.

If you go to the sleepy Eden Valley village of Calthwaite you might be mistaken for thinking nothing goes on here. This unassuming place with one pub and no shop might be off your radar. If you are interested in motorsport you might be surprise to learn that it hosts some of the most exciting car racing events in Cumbria.

Plenty of places these days have scarecrow festivals but few I have seen can better that of Langwathby near Penrith.

An opportunity to meet artisan food producers and sample their creations, craft and live cooking in demonstrations during the day. In the stunning settings of Dalemain, a large country house set just north of Ullswater in the Eden Valley.

Askham is a popular village in the Eden Valley not far from Penrith. It is a linear village with two good pubs The PunchBowl and The Queens Head, a wooden toy shop, post office and a heated outdoor swimming pool.

There are a variety of low level woodland walks in the area. The village is part of the Lowther Estate, Lowther Castle is at the bottom end of the village and remains as a ruin in reasonably good condition. The roof and windows were removed as a measure to avoid death duties and now leaves a curious looking skeleton of a building which looms eerily in the estate.

Far from the crowds in the heart of Eden farming country Dufton is a small village near to Appleby in Westmorland with an attractive backdrop of the foothills of the penines.

Its' long village green is lined with established and attractive trees and has a great pub. The youth hostel is amongst the best in Cumbria with a superb open fire for winter and a nice garden which great in summer.

Dalemain is a large georgian country home north of Ullswater on the edge of the English Lake District. The house and gardens are open to the public. There are various events during the year including a popular plant fair. The gardens are mostly traditional borders and herbaceous planting.

Located in the heart of the Eden valley in the North East of Cumbria this delightful sheltered garden is renowned for its herbs and orchards growing old English fruit varieties.

The grounds have been restored by The National Trust who run various events during the year including the Apple Day in late Summer where children enjoy a range of activites relating to the harvesting of apples in the large orchards.
