Peace and Quiet
Arnside area of outstanding natural beauty
Arnside is just south of Cumbria and is on the shores of the river Kent Estuary. This pretty little village is the perfect addition to any trip to The Lake District on the way home south.
You will discover a peaceful place with a small esturine sandy beach with a handful of boats. The climate is reliably better here than in the lakes so if you are escaping the rain you might be pleasantly surprised to discover Arnside has sunshine.
Caldbeck
Far from the hectic action in Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick the small village of Caldbeck is tucked away on the northern side of Skiddaw. It is an attractive collection of white washed traditional Cumbria cottages and stone barns. Still a thriving farming community it offers an opportunity to enjoy an area which is less influenced by tourism but never less is particularly interesting to visitor.
Troutbeck
A small settlement just a short way up the Kirkstone Pass, Troubeck is set on a hillside overlooking High Street (fell). It is ideal for those wanting a base which is peaceful with a great pub, but close enough to the major centres to enjoy them and then escape.
Boot, Eskdale
Boot is a tiny village in Eskdale valley with just a couple of pubs and a post office. It is situated at the end of the Hardknott pass and is a short drive from Ravenglass and Wasdale. This is a linear village and is ideal for those seeking a quieter stay far away from the bustle of places like Ambleside and Bowness.
Wasdale Valley
Wasdale comprises some of the most dramatic lakeland scenery. Wasdale is situated on Cumbria's remote west coast in a hidden cormer of the Lake District.
Wastwater is Englands deepest lake surrounded by famous mountains - Scafell Pike(Englands highest mountain), Scafell and Great Gable.
One of the many reasons people come to Wasdale is as a destination having travelled over the Wrynose and Hardknott passes. The formidable route offers the non fell walker the opportunity of experiencing the very finest scenery availble anywhere in the UK.
Little Langdale
With nearest shops in the next valley, one road and a pub Little Langdale is the perfect destination to get away from it all. What the valley has is lots of excellent walking and easy access to high high fells. If you are a fell walker and prefer to begin on foot from your accommodation Little Langdale is an appealling choice.
Crinkle Crags, Bow Fell and Wetherlam are all achievable from the valley. These mountains can me approached from less often trod directions which are really beatiful also.
