Cumbria Mountain Rescue Teams
Whilst fell walking in The Lake District it is comforting to know that if you happen to hurt yourself and are unable to get back off the mountain there are several teams of highly trained individuals who are able to come to your aid.
Calling Mountain Rescue in an emergency
If you do have an accident you must be ready to supply the following information when you call 999
- Ask for Police then Mountain Rescue
- Give your exact loaction, preferably a map reference
- Your phone number
If you call for mountain rescue keep your mobile phone turned on
Mountain Rescue is a volounteer organisation run by members who are passionate about the mountains. Without their huge dedication many lives in the regions high scenery would have been lost. It is imprtant to understand that they are an emergency service and are not there to come and rescue you unless you are in dire peril. With the huge popularility of the area the service is under constant pressure and soaring costs can be a problem.
Each team has its own site which features call out inforamtion and ways you can support the mountain rescue service which relies on donations for funding. If you enjoy activities in the fells, don't forget to drop some change into one of the collection pots in cafes, pubs and shops everywhere or visit one of these sites to discover how you can make a more substaintial contribution.
