"Derwent Water is 3 miles long, there are four islands all owned by the National Trust as is most of its shoreline. A popular way to enjoy the lake is by walking the paths around its shores. It is also possible to ride on The Keswick Launch if you prefer, or hire a rowing/motor boat. Keswick is situated at the north end of Derwentwater and Borrowdale to the south. This view is from Walla Crag, a superb view and so easily reached. It can be approached from Great Wood car park on the road out of Keswick towards Borrowdale. Allow a couple of hours for a return journey by foot. Notice in Great Wood the huge number of trees which have been blown down, mostly in the winter of 2005 during strong storms which caused flooding in accross Northern Cumbria."
