Dufton
Far from the crowds in the heart of Eden farming country Dufton is a small village near to Appleby in Westmorland with an attractive backdrop of the foothills of the penines.
Its' long village green is lined with established and attractive trees and has a great pub. The youth hostel is amongst the best in Cumbria with a superb open fire for winter and a nice garden which great in summer.
Dufton is perfectly placed for exploring the impressive High Cup Nick which is a basalt cliff landscape scoured out of of the pennines by glacial and then water erosion. It has to be one of the most impressive natural sights in Cumbria.
Dufton no longer has any shops so if you are self catering please bring supplies! If you happen to be there on Fridays there is a visit by the ice cream van, even in winter. Listen out for the funny horn.
