The fairfield horseshoe is a lakeland classic starting and finishing in Ambleside and taking a whole day. The route is steep grassy slopes to begin with then a sustained steady slog to the summit over several false summits. One a (rare) clear day you can see straight down windermere and accross to the Langdale Pikes from the summit, together with St Sunday Crag.
