Haweswater is the easterly lake located south east of Ullswater. There are stunning views surrounding the lake particularly of Harter Fell and High Street. In 1929 the length of the lake was increased to 4 miles when the lake was converted for use as a reservoir for Manchester. The inhabitants of the villages Mardale and Measand were relocated and the villages flooded. When the water level is low it is possible to see the remains of the village of Mardale.
