Rydal
Rydal is a tiny settlement famous primarily for its association with William Wordsworth who lived here for many years at Rydal Mount.
Surrounded by particularly stunning lakeland fells and the peaceful Rydal Water it is an excellent place for leisurely walking and relaxing. The area is suitable for taking young children walking and offers an excellent introduction to the Lakeland fells. Loughrigg Fell is a particularly rewarding local route from the shores of Rydal Water.
The nearby Rydal Caverns on Loughrigg terrace are worthy of an explore, just 20 minutes off the main road thes huge man made caves in the side of the fell date back to the days when mining was a major industry in the area. They are safe to enter, from inside you gain an unusual elevated view over Rydal Water to Fairfield. This gradulally inclined walk is suitable for children under supervision.
