Troutbeck

By pdjohnson - Posted on 04 February 2008

A small settlement just a short way up the Kirkstone Pass, Troubeck is set on a hillside overlooking High Street (fell). It is ideal for those wanting a base which is peaceful with a great pub, but close enough to the major centres to enjoy them and then escape. There are two good pubs in the village and a very small post office. An easy traffic free green route links Troutbeck with Ambleside taking a mostly level route along a terrace above Lake Windermere. On a clear day from which you can see over Grizedale to Coniston, also The Langdale Pikes and Loughrigg Fell. It is a great way to avoid using the car. Combine this with a return route over Wansfell for a superb Lakeland panorama or come back the same way.
