Windermere
Windermere away from the shores of the lake above Bowness on Windermere. It is a village which has much to offer visitors in the way of good hotels and facilities. For those travelling from the south for a weekend break this is a suitable base if you don't want to travel too far into the lakes.
The village has a good chip shop, grocery stores, a bank, several cafes and is the home of Lakeland Limited which is a popular local retailer of kitchen gadgets and accessories.
Winderemere has a branch line connection to Oxenholme The Lake District station which is the mainline link for The Lake Disrtict train services. There is a good bus service from Windermere out to Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick.
