Coniston Water
"
Coniston Water is the third largest lake in the Lake District. It is five miles long and reaches adepth of 184 feet.
Historically the lake provided an important source of fish for the monk population of Furness Abbey. More recently it has been used to transport slate and copper from the many mines in the valley above Coniston village.
There is the opportunity to travel on the lake on two different lanches - a Steam Yacht Gondola rcogon@smtp.ntrust.org.uk or the traditional timber Coniston Launch.
